Then and Now.

The New York Post reports today St. Patrick's Cathedral was graffiti-bombed with various semi-literate spray painted scrawlings by loser anarchists concerning the murder by a truly dumb cop of a two-bit counterfeiter over a thousand miles away.

Just for fun, let's imagine this vandalizing of the Cathedral took place during the reign of say, Francis Cardinal Spellman (though if you're of a more historical bent, substitute Cardinal "Dagger John" Hughes instead). I propose, upon being informed of this pathetic cowardly act, Spellman would have sallied forth with brush and pail and scrubbed the crudities off the Cathedral walls himself, likely in the presence of the invited press. Possibly at the same time, a phone call would have been made to the police commissioner and, in short order, offenders rounded up (there were plenty of anarchists in Spellman's time) and with the assistance perhaps of a famous NYPD "tune-up," confessions quickly wrought.

That would be then. Now, hours after the event, when a Post reporter contacted the Archdiocese's chief functionary hack Joseph Zwilling for some sort of reaction concerning this disgrace, Mr. Zwilling boldly went out on a limb to inform the reporter he was "unaware of the crime."

Happily though, your Bloviator's extensive network of sources reports Cardinal Dolan is aware of the crime and will soon be releasing a statement containing what's claimed to be his sternest apology yet to the perpetrators of this offense.
